Humorous play by Oscar Wilde, hinting at widespread in Victorian England, a situation when many dared to neglect moral principles and to lead a double life. This was expressed in different aspects, in this case, Wilde was drawn to the two gentlemen who invented a fictitious names, under which they wanted to run the affairs of the heart.
The play, overall, leaves a very pleasant aftertaste. It’s subtle humor, not too spicy but exquisite. Some remarks is quite apt to evoke a sincere smile and how relaxed and natural they sound like organic look framed decorations that impress and cause admiration of a lot stronger than the script itself. It’s amazing how managed to convey the breath of the era through a play.
And with all this, when you read this play, before the eyes come alive living room on Half Moon Street, where Algernon walks around surrounded by luxury, under piano chords, and his friend John Worthing – his charisma lies in irony and the genuine immediacy. Then the same Algernon and Worthing, but they are already in the manor Woolton, in the countryside, and the picture before my eyes immediately changes. Remarkable skill Wilde!
