The Willows by Algernon BlackwoodThe creation of the master of the English horror, which took the example of Lovecraft. Blackwood is a master of beautiful and detailed descriptions of the nature reveals to the reader a story about two friends that decided to make the journey on the river Danube.

Of course, in addition to flowers and birds on the way the characters will appear strange and inexplicable obstacles. If nature itself is against best friends and decided to drink their blood because they stayed the night on its territory.

The author gave just an incredible horror. Not even a timid man while reading this story felt on their skin all the fear and hopelessness experienced by the characters. It seems like Blackwood enchanted words. And he could, for such talented people on the planet Earth was not so much.

Summary: No wonder Lovecraft decided to learn from Blackwood. He writes such horrors that even after a huge time after the publication (and in fact the first edition was published in 1907!) remain scary and memorable.
