Learning about its transformation, the family is horrified: his father drives him to the room, where it is left on all the time, only sister comes to feed him. In severe mental and bodily pain Gregor spends time in the room. He was the only major source of income in the family, now his family are forced to tighten their belts, and the main character feels guilty.
it first his sister feels sorry and understands, but later, when the family begins to starve and forced to put tenants who blatantly and shamelessly behave in their home, she loses the remnants of feelings for the insect.

- The Characters
In insect form, Gregor managed to remain human and good. He continued to love his mother, father, sister, and understand what causes them inconveniences, so Gregor kept trying to be inconspicuous. It was sad to read about how he spent his time in his room, without appetite, afraid as if he no one saw and dreaming to hug his sister and talk to her.
